In the production process, I feel more rewarding: 1. Through understanding other works, I learned to combine the play with the theme. Although watching this little game after the end of the project will feel that its theme seems a little far-fetched. But this is very necessary. The change of playing method needs to be reasonable. It’s not just a simple change in an operation mode, but also a match with the content of the game. 2. Changing the way of hardware input will really get unexpected gains. In fact, before this, I doubt whether this game will achieve the desired effect. Now I don’t doubt it, because my A and L keys are about to be broken.
If you let me reflect on this development process again.
- I may choose to find a partner who is familiar with hardware. Because in the test process, many problems will appear in my slightly modified pedal. Such as poor contact and position deviation. Because its own shape is not suitable for “shaking legs”. Maybe using a sensor like switch is a better choice. I also imagined using the shaft of a mechanical keyboard to make a pedal. But I don’t have the right tools. Of course, as a game designer, I should focus more on game design than hardware.
- I also need to be more familiar with the application of engine and code. My development time is a bit long. This led me to make only two patterns. If we can come up with a solution faster. I can focus more on the design of the game content.
On the whole, the game basically reached my expectations. Try friends can experience some unusual fun from the game. They can shake their legs freely in PVP mode. But it has only two modes, and I haven’t had time to do more modes yet. At first, I wanted to make it into a series of small games related to shaking legs. But time doesn’t seem to allow. Another key problem is that it needs special equipment (pedals) to play, although players can use keyboard or mouse instead of it. But these are two completely different feelings. It can be described as almost two games. The limitation of hardware determines the actual playing scene of this game. Actually, there are some similar games on switch, which can be operated by gravity sensor of switch. For example, in the great adventure of fitness ring, players can tie the handle to their legs for exercise. Therefore, hardware is also an important part of game creativity.
